The Challenge
Children’s Personal Data
136 laptop and 126 desktop drives held pupil records, safeguarding logs and staff HR data covered by UK GDPR that had to be provably destroyed.
Managed Devices
MDM-enrolled laptops and tablets had to be identified and deprovisioned so they could be erased and released, not shipped out still tied to the school’s console.
Summer Window
The whole clearance had to run inside the summer break, alongside decorators and a new intake, and be finished before staff and pupils returned.
Full Compliance
UK GDPR, safeguarding duty of care and the WEEE Duty of Care all had to be satisfied, with certificates and a serialised audit trail as evidence.
Our Solution: End-to-End IT Recycling Process
1. Planning
Collection booked into the summer break, with the whole estate scheduled for a single visit.
2. On-Site Audit
All 276 items logged and counted onto the Waste Transfer Note; managed devices flagged for deprovisioning.
3. Secure Collection
Loaded by our own BS 7858-screened team into a GPS-tracked vehicle — one unbroken chain of custody.
4. Data Destruction
Enrolment status checked, then every laptop, tablet, desktop and server drive erased to HMG Infosec Standard No. 5, the UK Government standard, and certified per device.
5. Reuse & Recycling
Erased devices with working life left refurbished for reuse — the lowest-carbon outcome; the rest recovered for materials. 100% diverted from landfill.
6. Certification
WEEE Disposal and Data Destruction Certificates issued under one reference within five working days.
