Primary School IT Clear-Out &
Secure Data Destruction Project

An Essex Primary School

Computer IT Disposals cleared decades of accumulated IT from an Essex primary school in a single visit — 303 assets, from 90 laptops and 58 tablets to legacy hard drives, tape and floppy drives, collected in one working day, every drive wiped to HMG Infosec Standard No. 5, with 100% diverted from landfill and full UK GDPR compliance.

The Challenge

Children’s Personal Data

Laptop, tablet and desktop drives held pupil records, safeguarding logs, SEND and free-school-meal data covered by UK GDPR that had to be provably destroyed.

Decades of Legacy Kit

Alongside current devices sat old hard drives, tape drives, floppy drives and a CD drive — legacy hardware few recyclers will take, all needing a documented route.

Small Team, One Window

The school had no dedicated IT department, so the whole clear-out had to be planned, collected and certified in a single coordinated visit.

Full Compliance

UK GDPR, safeguarding duty of care and the WEEE Duty of Care all had to be satisfied, with certificates and a serialised audit trail as evidence.

Our Solution: End-to-End IT Recycling Process

1. Planning

Collection planned around the school day, with the whole estate — current and legacy — scheduled into one visit.

2. On-Site Audit

All 303 items logged and counted onto the Waste Transfer Note before anything left the site.

3. Secure Collection

Loaded by our own BS 7858-screened team into a GPS-tracked vehicle — one unbroken chain of custody.

4. Data Destruction

Every laptop, tablet, desktop, server and loose hard drive wiped to HMG Infosec Standard No. 5, the UK Government standard, and certified per device.

5. Reuse & Recycling

Wiped devices with working life left refurbished for reuse — the lowest-carbon outcome; legacy drives, toner and mixed WEEE recovered for materials. 100% diverted from landfill.

6. Certification

WEEE Disposal and Data Destruction Certificates issued under one reference within five working days.

Environmental Impact

  • Erasure — not destruction — kept working laptops, tablets and desktops in circulation, the lowest-carbon end-of-life outcome.
  • Zero waste to landfill — 100% of collected equipment, including decades-old legacy hardware, diverted.
  • Recovered metals and plastics returned to the circular economy; toner recycled through its own stream.
  • An ESG report provided for the school’s sustainability reporting and Climate Action Plan work.
