Is Laptop Recycling Free?
Yes, for 20 or more qualifying devices. Free laptop collection applies across England, Scotland and Wales, and laptops are exactly the kind of equipment that qualifies. Fewer than 20? Send us your list, as we may still be able to offer free collection and data destruction.
If your laptops don’t qualify for free collection, there are two other routes: drop them off at our Nottingham facility, or ship them to us and we’ll process them free of charge. You’ll receive a ticket number on arrival and the same certificates as any collection. Where shredding is required, charges may apply, and we’ll confirm this before you send anything.
Certified Data Destruction on Every Laptop
In our laptop recycling process, every laptop is data-processed before anything else happens to it. Secure laptop disposal here means certified data destruction matched to your data policy:

Certified erasure:drives wiped to NIST 800-88 and HMG Infosec Standard No. 5, Clear or Purge to your policy, using Blancco’s ADISA-certified data erasure software.

Physical destruction:carried out to BS EN 15713 where your policy requires it, with hard drive shredding to 6–8mm, SSDs to 2mm, or complete laptops destroyed to 12–15mm.

On-site or off-site: shredding is available at your premises or at our facility.

Certificates within five working days: data destruction certificates (per device or consolidated), your WEEE certificate and a full audit report listing every serial number and asset tag.
Locked devices are shredded. MacBooks still locked to an Apple ID, laptops enrolled in MDM and managed Chromebooks can’t be verifiably erased, so they are physically destroyed and the method is recorded on your certificate. You don’t need to unlock or deprovision anything before we arrive.

Your Legal Duties When Disposing of Laptops
Laptop computer disposal brings two sets of obligations together, and one collection from us discharges both:
- Data protection.Under UK GDPR, the personal data on your laptops remains your responsibility until it is provably destroyed. A certificate per device is your evidence.
- Waste law.Laptops are WEEE, so they must go to a licensed operator with a Waste Transfer Note under your Duty of Care, and be treated under the WEEE Regulations rather than landfilled.
